Trick for Scoring Expensive Furniture for Less

Happy August friends! I have been meaning to share how we styled this kitchen with you and can’t believe summer has flown by so fast! I’ll be sharing ways to style YOUR kitchen soon but couldn’t wait to share this shopping trick with you today.

I had sourced the Serena & Lily Riveria counter stools for my friend/clients brand new kitchen. They are pretty pricey ($348/each) but she was able to score them for a FRACTION of the price – and in EXCELLENT condition.

She graciously gave me the OK to share her shopping secret with you so here it is………

When shopping resale online, I usually search by the TYPE of piece I’m looking for specifically (ie: “counter stools”). INSTEAD of searching this way, search resale marketplaces by typing in the furniture brand. You’ll be amazed at what you find.

For example, type in “Restoration Hardware”, “Serena & Lily” or “Potterybarn” on Craiglist or Facebook Marketplace. I was surprised how many nice pieces popped up the first time I tried this. It may be hit or miss depending on your area but it also helps if you are willing to travel further. You can adjust your search area and see what else is available.

Also, it doesn’t hurt to ask if the sellers pricing is flexible. Just be reasonable if you are going to try and negotiate! You don’t want to offend them by offering too low of a price.

Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and E-bay are the three main online places I look to for secondhand furniture. If you know of any others, please share! These are the ones I’ve had the best luck on. Stay tuned for my list of favorite local shops and tips to shop resale.

My friend, Ashley, is known for finding great deals and having excellent taste. She recently started an online resale shop for high end clothing so be sure to check out her instagram here!
