Welcome to the “Stores & Stories” series where I’m exploring businesses that offer more than one would expect. From innovative businesses, unique products or an inspiring history, I am always looking for interesting home decor and design sources to share with you.
I get really excited when I discover a new source that I love and has a great story. Especially when that story involves giving back. I am thrilled to introduce you to Local + Lejos, an online shop with unique, handmade, quality items.
With each purchase, you receive a card that shows how your purchase made an impact. See that basket shown in the image above? It’s made from banana leaves! And for each basket sold, the artisan is able to pay for ONE YEAR of health insurance. Pretty amazing. Did I mention it only costs $62?
“Your purchase allows our artisan women to provide electricity for their families”.
Not only are these items so stylish, but the prices are unbeatable. You can shop by product type OR by country the items are made. Items available:
- Blankets
- Baskets
- Bowls (I have my eye on this one)
- Pillows
- Table Linens (including the cutest tea towels!)
The founder of Local and Lejos, Sheeva Sairafi, created the shop to connect consumers with quality and unique goods while making a social impact. In case you aren’t fluent in Spanish, “Lejos” means “pertaining to a place that is far away”. And we know what local means. So close by and far away.
You can even check out the artisans behind the goods on the “Meet the Artisans” page. I will definitely be keeping this precious shop in mind in the future and hope you do to!
What a great idea, Sam! I love this post! Looking forward to more in this series.
