ORC Week 5: Furniture & Rug

It’s week 5 of the One Room Challenge, and I’m sticking to my plan and sharing a furniture update this week!
We moved our grasscloth console from our entryway to our upstairs landing to see how we liked having a table up there. I love moving things around the house (as you probably know), and it was easy to pull this from our entry to test out upstairs.

After we moved it, it was suddenly THE PLACE to be in our house. I also borrowed our striped ottomans from downstairs to tuck under the console. I ended up using this space almost daily myself! It worked out as a great spot to sit when I needed to work on my laptop or catch up on emails.

I do love how bright it is up here + the view now that we updated our lighting. The picture below was taken BEFORE we changed out our lighting and installed the new floors, but here is a look at what I was thinking originally for the furniture layout.

In progress pic of furniture layout 🙂

The kids ALSO started using this space daily for homework and play; the little ones usually under the table with toys, hah. So, all in all – this once unused space now serves our family well, and it just took a little rearranging of our own furniture 🙂

HOWEVER….

I also tried out our rattan bar cart here when I was putting things back after our floors were redone. Again, I like to move things around and try out furniture we own in new ways, especially before I buy anything new.

I also LOVE how the bar cart looks here. It doesn’t make the space as usable as the console with ottomans, but it looks good 🙂 And we have some sparkling water and some other things accessible.

So I’m a bit torn for the reveal!

I do love the function and style of 2 ottomans tucked under a console, so here are a few options for you that we were contemplating ordering (I did end up ordering the ones on the original design board but love these too!)

Ottoman options:

  1. Bamboo pattern by Scalamandré (these were close to the top of my list to go with the light fixture)
  2. Rattan Stools (love the texture of these and currently on sale)
  3. Blue and white striped. A classic.
  4. Abstract natural and white pattern
  5. Yellow striped (aren’t these fun?)
  6. Fawn design These have storage!

Here is a link to a similar console table as well (it is no longer available in gray but comes in Navy and Natural): Grasscloth Console Table

Lastly, the cowhide rug arrived!

I ordered the Loloi cowhide rug because I love the cozy feel, and the shape adds interest to the space. This has been a go-to rug for landings and smaller spaces ~

Here’s a quick sneak peek at the rug, the new ottomans and this ruffled marble bowl that I’m obsessed with! It looks so good everywhere I’ve placed it and is perfect for any table 🙂 It’s on backorder but worth the wait.

PS. Mine ended up shipping quickly, which was a happy surprise after all the delays on our floor 🙂

See you next week for Week 6 of the One Room Challenge! And don’t forget to check out more projects from other participants HERE.
