It’s week 2 of the ORC!
In case you missed it, I joined this years One Room Challenge with Better Homes and Gardens. It’s an 8 week event to transform a room in just 6 weeks.
I am very excited that one of the biggest projects for our living room is completed. It feels sooo good to check it off the list! We added electrical to our long & boring ceiling and installed a beautiful light fixture from one of my newest blog partners, Crystorama.
It changes the entire feel of the room already ~

Before I get started with the details on the installation and WHY adding a light was a good idea, here are a few highlights on Crystorama:
- Crystorama is a family owned company
- For more than 60 years, it has been a leader in the lighting industry recognized for exceptional quality, design, and craftsmanship
- The lighting designs are inspired by fashion and art
- Their selection of high end lighting for your home is very impressive (they have so many gorgeous options to choose from!)
- Crystorama sells to the trade only (but you can browse their website and purchase through a preferred local dealer, or your designer)
Adding a light fixture to the ceiling gives overhead lighting for the entire room. It also adds interest to the ceiling and a beautiful statement piece. Lighting really is the jewelry of the home!
Here’s a peek at the installation process ~
I marked the exact location I wanted the fixture with a twine taped to the ceiling. The electricians loved this idea hah!

The length of the string will be the length of the chandelier.
Note, I wanted a statement light and we will have a coffee table underneath. I can walk under it with no problem but Eric is 6’5″ so keeping a coffee table under is a must going forward.

Our electricians cut into this wall to run the wiring for the ceiling. I knew they would have to open up the wall but this part always makes me so nervous!

They thankfully left minimal damage which will easily be fixed. This entire wall is getting a major facelift so I’m not worried about this at all.
I installed a dimmer which I highly recommend doing for every main light fixture. It’s an easy thing to do and makes the biggest difference.
This is usually the first thing we do in the bathrooms and living spaces when we move into a new house.
And here is the new chandelier installed!

The silk drum shades and solid glass stems are stunning in person.

The light fixture is called the Baxter 8 Light Chandelier in Polished Nickel.
It is also available in aged brass. It is the perfect mix of a chic and minimalistic style.
I love this view looking up from our sofa….

The room already looks SO different from when I took this picture a couple days ago. More next week!!
The fern artwork is gone (and will be missed) and the new mantel is currently being built. It is scheduled to be installed early next week 🙂 Also – this is our “make shift” coffee table area but all of that will be changing soon too.
Thank you again to Crystorama for the gorgeous light fixture and for sponsoring this post! I could never have dreamed up this entire room redesign if it weren’t for my amazing blog sponsors.
Most of the items I’ve ordered have arrived already so next weeks post will include more details on the entire design plan. There are 3 types of wallpaper going in (all used in different ways which may surprise you!)
Stay tuned! And in the meantime, be sure to check out more designers ORC projects here: One Room Challenge Spring 2021 ~

It looks so beautiful, Samantha. That chandelier is gorgeous. I am looking forward to watching this room’s progress.
SO pretty, Samantha – hat chandelier looks fabulous! Lighting really is critical to the success of a room!
Beautiful start to your project. Can’t wait to see the final reveal!!
What a gorgeous light fixture! You’re so smart to put that on a dimmer as well! Looking forward to seeing more next week.
