Kids’ Room Mood Board

Design boards are one of my absolute favorite things to put together and this time, my clients are some of my favorite people ๐Ÿ’“

Carpet One Floor & Home reached out about partnering for their 2022 Trending Ten influencer campaign and I couldn’t wait to get started on the design with their flooring ~

Eric and I have been dreaming about redoing the floors in the bedrooms and landing upstairs since we moved into our home. (It was actually 5 years ago this month that we moved in which is hard to believe!) So I was especially excited when Carpet One selected me to create a mood board with two of their top flooring products for our kids’ bedroom. I have been gravitating more towards a casual coastal aesthetic lately and my “clients” were very enthusiastic about this project too ๐Ÿ™‚

When it came to the overall design, I wanted to stick to a simple and calming color palette of grays, blues, whites and light wood tones. This palette is perfect for a boys or girls room. Adding lots of playful patterns, storage and texture were also on my wish list.

Our youngest two children, Harper (3) and Danny (1) are currently sharing a bedroom for the time being. Even though Harper is still quite young, it was fun to her involved in the creative part of the mood board.

I picked a few of my favorite fabrics for the kids to peruse through. I also included some inspiration photos of lighting, nightstands and toy storage, for their approval ;). Some of the samples you see on the mood board are from my go-to sources and would be used for their pillows, window treatments, wall coverings and more.

Whenever I start designing up a room, I like to start with the flooring as a “base”. Whether that is simply adding a new rug, or replacing the flooring. Floors anchor a room and are one of the most important design elements to the overall impact of the space.

Carpet One sent me two of their top flooring products which kicked off my design.

The first sample is a carpet called Summit Point. It has a beautiful diamond pattern and a mix of high cut tufts and lower loops.

If you’re in the market for new carpet, keep this one in mind! The scale of the pattern works well in larger spaces as well as smaller spaces. So this could be used for the entire room, or just in the closet and still make a visual impact. This particular gray shade is also a great neutral that works with warm and cool tones. It is very versatile.

The second sample is a plank hardwood called Shelby Lane – White Oak in an antique finish. This flooring has a light wood shade with high variation. Our plan would be to have this go in all the bedrooms and the upstairs landing. I personally love the coziness of carpet in bedrooms, but like that hardwoods are easier to clean and prefer the look overall.

I brought in some colorful flowers for photographing the mood board which represents the colorful toys and accents that will fill the room quickly.

Our one year old will be in a crib for at least another year (we think!) and currently have a fringe bed skirt which I love. I also love the idea of a day bed with a trundle in a kids bedroom so I included an upholstered one above as well. We used to have one for our oldest when she was younger and I miss it! It was nice to have the extra bed space when we needed, plus it had additional storage in the bottom.

Thinking of function, durability and quality are all important elements to think about when designing any space. Flooring is one area that I am particular about, especially for a kids space where they spend a lot of time playing on the floor.

Making flooring decisions can be intimidating sometimes but Carpet One Floor & Home strives to make it easy. I LOVE that they offer a “Beautiful Guarantee” so even if you don’t 100% love your new flooring selection, they will replace it for free!

I also highly recommend using their Room Visualizer tool that shows how different flooring options will look in your own home. You simply upload a photo of your actual space to their website and like magic, it changes your floors to the option you choose. You can easily click on different carpet options, wood shades and styles. I have a good eye for these things and still find the room visualizers SO helpful.

Plus it is fun to use.

You can even order carpet and wood samples to be shipped directly to your house through their website. They really make the process as simple as possible!

Putting together this mood board for our kids’ bedroom was such a fun project and thank you Carpet One for partnering with me on this post ~

Ps. Iโ€™m sharing their room visualizer feature on my instagram stories today + a little reel of the entire mood board so head on over to see more ~
