Easy Wallpaper Install with Rocky Mountain Decals

I’ve been raving about our new removable wallpaper from Rocky Mountain Decals to our neighbors, friends and family and could not wait to share more details with you!

It was surprisingly so easy to install and completely transformed Kinzie’s bedroom.

My mom and I installed it (while I was 7 months pregnant) without any issues. We finished it in a weekend and if we weren’t so distracted by kids, life, naps, etc. it probably would have only taken a couple hours to complete the entire accent wall.

I wanted to show you a before picture for 2 reasons. One, to document this room as it was since we’ll eventually be changing even more.

The second reason: to show how much of a difference a wallpaper accent wall makes. It really did transform the room.

We had planned to paint the nursery (in case you remember this post) but after installing the wallpaper, we are keeping the color as is.

First Step – Measure!

The first thing you’ll want to do if you are considering wallpapering is to measure accurately. I always have a professional confirm my measurements and the company I’m ordering from. From my experience wallpaper installation can get pretty costly so being able to do this on our own was a huge plus.

Since we were doing the install ourselves, I sent our wall dimensions to Rocky Mountain Decals and they were able to confirm I needed 7 panels. For reference, our wall is just over 12′ wide with 8′ ceilings.

 Take Your Time!

This is not a project you’ll want to rush through.

It does require some patience and attention to detail while installing. I have a new whole new respect for professional wallpaper installers since lining up each panel as perfectly as possible next to each other is definitely the most challenging part.

Luckily, the removable wallpaper from Rocky Mountain Decals was soooo easy to pull off and realign when we needed to.

We did this quite a few times. I swear our ceiling is crooked ๐Ÿ˜‰

I highly recommend having someone help here. I couldn’t have done this without my mom making sure we stayed on track. Even though we had to realign the paper multiple times, I wasn’t worried about ripping it because it is super durable.

{Here’s a close up – if you look really close, you can see where we lined up the edges on each panel. This is the trickiest part so take your time!}

Tools

You’ll need:

  • A ladder – a step ladder should suffice depending on how tall your ceilings are
  • Utility knife – we used this to trim the ends at the bottom and on the last panel
  • Decal applicator tool – This comes with your purchase. You’ll use this while applying each panel. Save it when you are done too! You’ll probably have to smooth out any bubbles after it settles a bit.

This is the decal applicator tool in action!

After we smoothed out the panels, we used the utility knife to cut off the excess at the bottom and on the last panel. The wallpaper is extremely durable but cut easily.

I’m thrilled with how the wallpaper turned out! I still have a few more changes to make (like those window treatments, eek!). I promise to share more updates as we get to them ๐Ÿ™‚

Rocky Mountain Decals was kind enough to share a special discount for my readers (thank you!).  Use code SHINING15 to get 15% off your order.

Also, here is a direct link to purchase the Bella Wallpaper.

I was torn between this print and the Moody Floral Wallpaper. It has been popping up everywhere on my social media feeds and luckily I just convinced a client to order it for her daughter’s room.

More details on that project coming soon!

The price will depend on how many rolls you need for your project ๐Ÿ™‚ I emailed Rocky Mountain with my exact wall dimensions so they could confirm. They are super helpful!
