Uncovering the Best Sources for Home Decor and Design
Welcome to the “Stores & Stories” series where I’m exploring businesses that offer more than one would expect. Whether it be an innovative business, unique products or an inspiring history – I am always looking for interesting home decor and design sources to share with you.
I first heard about Brick & Mortar while visiting Lake Geneva for a friend’s wedding this summer. It was already closed when we stopped by the Starbucks across the street but I was so intrigued by the exterior that I had to find out more.
Fast forward to our next trip to Lake Geneva. I stepped, or stumbled in Brick & Mortar! Yes. It was amazing. But it was a very quick ‘pop in” since I knew I could do some damage. My husband and I had a little vacation just the two of us and decided to have a little champagne brunch to celebrate. We may have indulged in the champagne part! No judgement please! This was our first getaway in years where it was just the two of us. So we had fun. But I digress….
Third trip this year to Lake Geneva, success! My mom, sister, daughter and I took a holiday girl’s getaway and finally visiting Brick & Mortar was definitely a shopping highlight for me. This store is filled with items I could fill my entire (dream) lake house with.
Store: Brick & Mortar Home
Year Opened: 2009
Location: Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
Website: BrickandMortarHome.com
Unique items for sale:
- Lake house decor
- Locally made art
- Custom made slipcovers
- Wood print wall art (one of their most popular items)
The store itself is beautiful designed. The staircases leading to the upper and lower levels are like a piece of art!
Kathy George, the owner of Brick & Mortar, purchased the “old Christmas House” almost 8 years ago and remodeled it. There are three levels and vignettes of indoor and outdoor living spaces throughout the entire store. Kathy splits her time between Santa Barbara and Lake Geneva so the west coast brings a lot of influence to her store.

“I love making houses homes and a warm fuzzy place to sit and relax while enjoying your surroundings.” – Kathy George, owner of Brick & Mortar
One of my favorite things in Brick & Mortar were the unique and creative lighting options. From this horse table lamp and fun pendants (below) to nautical lights wrapped in rope – there is something for everyone!
On your visit, it’s important to note there are actually two Brick & Mortar shops in Lake Geneva. This one, specifically Brick & Mortar Home and Outdoor on 222 Center Street.
The second store is smaller, also called Brick and Mortar, focuses more on home accessories and is located on 832 Geneva St in a 1900’s brick home. We visited both and if you have time, I recommend doing the same!
Thank you to Kathy, Amber and Cheryl. It was great to meet you and I look forward to visiting again!
