Who’s ready for fall?! Summer is my favorite season and yikes, this summer really flew by! I don’t know if it was all the 90+ degree days or humidity this season but I have really been craving some cooler, fall weather. And I have already spiced up my home for the fall season! I teamed up with ATG Stores| A Lowe’s® Lighting, Furniture & Home Store to share with you how I take my home decor from summer to fall with five easy tips!
When ATG contacted me about partnering with them for fall looks, I was ecstatic!! In case you aren’t familiar, ATG is an online store that offers everything from furniture, home decor to kitchen sinks. And there are SO many options available at different price points. You can basically find anything you are looking for and I highly recommend adding them to your little black book 🙂
I’ve also included links below to items shown on this blog post below so be sure to check those out! Now, without further ado, let’s get started with these 5 tips…..
Tip 1: ADD TEXTURE AND LAYERS
You’ve heard this one before and there is a good reason for it. Texture adds warmth. And when fall comes around, it’s time to warm up! Pillows, blankets, textured poufs, layer these on! You can mix these up so easily. Play with patterns and use your existing decor. More textures and layers in a room make the room FEEL cozier.
Blankets are like the sweaters for the home. You need a few good ones and at least one great one in your wardrobe. I say find one you love! This pink plaid blanket has been traveling around the house, from bedroom to living room to playroom – and even over to my in-laws last weekend. I love the plaid print and bright color. A perfect summer to fall mix.
Also, think about the color palette in your house and which fall colors will complement your existing decor. If you have a lot of blue tones, add orange colors. I have a lot of pink and purple tones so I emphasize these and pop in a little accents too. The key here (again) is layer and add texture!
Tip 2: ADD NATURAL ELEMENTS
Think leaves, branches, birch logs, flowers, wheat bundles. Pumpkins and apples count too! I love apple picking in the early fall, so naturally, they are used as decor too. Pumpkins are an obvious element for fall and I love mixing up the traditional pumpkin look with some paint and embellishments (I’m sure you’ll be seeing some of these very soon). Btw, did you know pumpkins are actually considered a fruit? I had no idea until recently!
Possibly my favorite thing to bring indoors this time of year are real birch logs. They add texture and nature to your room. I’m guilty of moving these around the house throughout winter and fall since they look great in almost every corner. I’m a nature lover and will bring the outdoors in wherever possible. Which brings me to my next tip…..
Tip 3: SWITCH UP YOUR ARTWORK
Switching up artwork and photos are so easy to do seasonally. You can mix up prints and photos in your existing frames or buy new. See these leaf prints? They actually came in a set of 6 from ATG and I broke them up to hang throughout my home. In the living room, staircase and at my desk. They are so pretty in every place. We’ll also be taking fall family photos this year which will go in some of our picture frames.
Tip #4: DINING ROOM CENTERPIECE
A centerpiece is the focal point of your dining room and if you do one thing here, this is where it’ll make the biggest impact. You don’t have to do anything elaborate! I love using this stunning tray and adding a few simple, yet festive decorations.
You can display pumpkins, candles, gourds, pinecones. Mix it up! If you are entertaining, serve fall inspired drinks, nuts, or dessert here. This is another way to add layers for fall. Layers on the table, everywhere. Having everything nicely on a tray makes it easy to move around too when guests are over.
Remember tip #2? Bring nature in. If I could have fresh flowers in the house everyday, I would. I don’t have a lot of orange in the house year round. But when fall comes around, suddenly it’s my favorite color! To bring in orange tones, I like to use flowers and pumpkins.
Tip #5: MAKE A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION
The first step to transform a house for fall is as easy as adding a wreath to your front door. Even if you don’t do anything else, your neighbors will think you are in the fall spirit.
Our summers seem to be lasting a little longer in Chicago (we even had 80 degree days last October!) so an apple wreath is a great fall look that you can use early in the season before the leaves really start to change.
Check out this post where I styled my apple wreath in 4 different ways around the house (hint: one of them relates to tip #4!).
Thanks for reading these tips and please share with me how you spice up your home this time of year!
