“Pick one room and make it yours. Go slowly through the house. Be polite, introduce yourself so it can introduce itself to you”. – Frances Mayer, Under the Tuscan Sun
We are finally getting settled in (somewhat) and I now realize why people hire me when they buy a new place. It surely is overwhelming!!
While our lives are quite different, I still keep thinking about a scene from a favorite movie of mine, Under the Tuscan Sun, with Diane Lane. In case you aren’t familiar or need a refresher, she buys a fixer-upper villa in Tuscany and the scene that sticks with me is where she is walking through the villa, totally overwhelmed on where to start.
She says “Pick one room and make it yours. Go slowly through the house. Be polite, introduce yourself so it can introduce itself to you”.
We bought a home built 15 years ago, not hundreds of years ago. And it definitely does not need projects like a fixer upper does.. So things are a little different! The rooms in our house are more of boxes so adding a little character here and there is my goal. While keeping things light and bright – and kid friendly!
We have a birthday party and a few work projects too (I get most work done on the weekends these days!). Our own projects will have to wait but at least we are making a little progress in our sunroom 🙂
Oh, and Father’s day! Eric’s present is being “installed” in the living room tomorrow!
I’ll be sharing little updates when I can here on our own house and some projects in the works. Hopefully sooner than later!
Have a happy weekend!
